Guests often spend their first two or three days on our east-coast beaches — the pebble coves, the glass-still water, the easy mornings. Then someone asks, "What else should we see?" and the honest answer is: go north.
The north coast of Corfu is a different character altogether. Longer sand beaches, shallower water, the spectacular sandstone of Canal d'Amour, and the cinematic cliffs of Cape Drastis. It makes a perfect day-trip from our beach houses, and the drive itself is one of the prettiest on the island.
The Star of the Show — Canal d'Amour
Just outside Sidari village, the sea has carved golden sandstone into a series of narrow channels, natural arches and tunnels. The "Canal of Love" is the most famous — a 30-metre slot you can swim through, with water clear enough to see every pebble.
The Love Legend
Local lore says a couple who swims the channel together will marry within the year, and a single swimmer will meet their partner on the other side. Our guests who have tried it report the swim itself is lovely — the marriage statistics we don't collect.
The approach is a 15-minute coastal-path walk from Sidari centre — and the views from the path are often better than the channel itself. A sunset visit is the one we recommend: the stone glows honey-gold in the last hour of light.
Cape Drastis — The Dramatic One
Fifteen minutes west of Sidari the coast turns fierce. Cape Drastis is a headland of jagged white limestone, splintered into fingers that reach out into clear turquoise water. It is ten minutes on foot from the parking area down a loose-gravel path.
Good to Know
Cape Drastis is not a swimming destination. The water between the fingers is beautiful but rocky and deep. Our guests go for the photographs and the walk — it's one of the island's three great coastal views.
The Northern Sand Beaches
Acharavi
The one we send families with young children to. Two kilometres of flat fine sand and water that stays shallow for 30 metres out — perfect for paddling, frustrating for swimmers. Tavernas and beach bars at the western end.
Roda
Our favourite of the north-coast beach villages. Smaller than Sidari, still has a working fishing harbour, and the family-run tavernas serve some of the best fresh fish on the island. Quieter than Acharavi in peak season.
Sidari Main Beach
The working beach of the Sidari resort village. Busier and more commercial, but convenient if you're combining a Canal d'Amour visit with a beach day. Reasonable water-sports and plenty of cafés.
Agios Spiridon (North)
The hidden one. A small fine-sand bay north of Kassiopi, usually empty even in August, with shallow turquoise water and a couple of simple tavernas. Our pick for the quiet day.
A Host's Tip
Combine the north coast in one well-planned day: arrive at Cape Drastis by 10am when the light is soft, walk down for 30 minutes of photography, drive to Sidari for a Canal d'Amour swim before lunch, eat at one of the harbour tavernas in Roda, and finish at Acharavi for a long afternoon on the sand. Home by 7pm.
Getting There from Our Houses
From our east-coast beach houses, the drive north is 35–60 minutes depending on which beach. The coastal road is winding but scenic. From our town residences in Corfu Town, it's 45 minutes to Sidari.
★ Rent a Car with Herbie
The north coast is not friendly to public buses — Cape Drastis and the smaller bays aren't served. Our rental partner delivers the car to your accommodation and the team answers the phone in English and Greek.
Book a car →Staying in the North
If the north coast is a priority, staying near it makes sense — Sidari, Acharavi, Roda and Kassiopi all have accommodation clusters. For guests who want to combine north-coast beach days with Old Town evenings, a Corfu Town base works better.
★ Oikia 4 — Corfu Town Apartment
A central Corfu Town apartment for guests combining Canal d'Amour day-trips with Old Town evenings. 45 minutes' drive to Sidari, five minutes' walk to the Liston.
View apartment →A Few Practical Notes
Swimming Canal d'Amour: aqua shoes, especially for children. The rock is sharp when wet.
Cape Drastis: proper shoes. The descent path is uneven.
Parking: Sidari has paid lots near Canal d'Amour. Cape Drastis has informal gravel parking.
Luggage on arrival: if you fly in and want to head north first, leave your bags at Lock and Walk in town.
