Cycling Corfu From a Beach House: Routes We Recommend to Guests

Published 24 April 2026 · 8 min read

A small but persistent subset of our guests arrive with cycling on their wishlist. Over the years we’ve tested the routes, asked our guests which ones they loved, and shortlisted the five that consistently get thank-you messages. Here’s the list, with honest notes on what each asks of you and where each delivers.

Corfu on Two Wheels — the Short Pitch

The island is compact (60 km tip-to-tip), the interior has genuinely quiet roads, and the olive groves make endless shade. E-bikes have transformed the experience — guests who would never normally consider a 800-metre climb now happily tackle Mount Pantokrator. Spring and autumn are best; summer rides need an early start.

1. Southern Flat Loop   Easy

35 km · 3–4 hours · flat

The one we recommend to families and first-time Corfu cyclists. Lefkimmi out past the Korission Lagoon (flamingos in spring and autumn) and Halikounas Beach, back through traditional villages. Almost no traffic; olive groves and salt marshes. Pack a swim stop at Halikounas — beautifully quiet sand beach.

2. Skripero Village Circuit   Moderate

25 km · 2.5–3.5 hours

A ride through the central agricultural heartland. Villages where old men sit in the plateia drinking coffee, olive groves hundreds of years old, views across to Albania from Sokraki’s hillside. Moderate climbs; the tavernas in Sokraki are worth the climb alone.

3. Northeast Coast Road   Moderate

40 km one-way · 4–5 hours

The classic. Corfu Town to Kassiopi along the coast road, with swimming stops at Dassia, Barbati, Kalami (the Durrell house), and Agni. Rolling hills, Albanian mountains as constant horizon. Lunch in Kassiopi; bus back with the bike (most buses take them).

4. Mount Pantokrator Challenge   Challenging

30 km return · 4–6 hours · 800 m climb

Serious cyclists or e-bike users only. From Spartilas up to the 906-metre summit — steady 5–6 percent gradient, sections of 10 percent. The view from the top reaches Albania, mainland Greece, and on clear days Italy. Descent is stunning but needs full attention.

5. Paleokastritsa Loop   Moderate–Hard

30 km loop · 3–4 hours · 500 m

From the countryside down to Paleokastritsa’s turquoise coves (swim stop), then up through Lakones for the famous Bella Vista viewpoint. A genuine highlight ride if you like a challenge with reward.

E-Bikes: Our Recommendation Most Often

Nine times out of ten, when a guest asks us whether they should rent a regular bike or an e-bike, we say e-bike. Pedal assistance isn’t cheating; it’s the difference between an exhausting climb up Lakones and a pleasant one where you have energy left to appreciate the view. 60–80 km range, 25–40 euros per day, widely available in Corfu Town, Dassia, and other tourist areas. Book ahead in July–August.

Our Cycling Notes for Guests

Bike rental: Multiple operators across the island. Arrange drop-off to the beach house — most will deliver for a small fee or for free on multi-day rentals.

Best season: March–May and September–November. Summer means early starts.

What to wear: Padded shorts and a helmet (not legally required but strongly recommended). Gloves for longer rides.

Water and food: 2 litres minimum on summer rides. Village shops are sparse inland — stock up before leaving.

Navigation: Komoot has most of these routes user-uploaded. Download offline.

Sunset stop: The Paleokastritsa and Northeast Coast routes both end within 30 minutes of golden hour. Plan your finish for sunset — worth it.

Pairing With a Town Stay

Several of our guests have split trips between a beach house for riding and Oikia 4 (our partner apartment in Corfu Old Town) for a town-based half — easier access to the Northeast Coast and Southern Flat routes from town. Ask us; we’ll help plan it.

Herbie Cars — Support Vehicle

For rest days off the bike — or for picking up a bike from the rental shop — our rental partner delivers to the house. Free delivery, honest rates.
